5:45 PM - 6:30 PM - Graham Finch - RDH
The requirements for building enclosures are becoming increasingly complicated in BC. While energy and low-carbon requirements have been steadily ratcheting up, new performance requirements for climate and overall resiliency are becoming as critical especially for insurance costs and coverage. The design of enclosures for higher wind loads, resistance to hail, resiliency and drying post-flooding, less prone to overheating, have improved radon control, and added wildfire resiliency is becoming increasingly common depending on the local insurance risks. This bigger picture thinking causes reflection on typical designs and the careful evaluation of different traditional enclosures and details to be more resilient. This talk will share insights into where enclosure designs are trending in order to manage different insurable risks we face in BC.
6:30 PM - 7:15 PM - Mark Bernhardt - BERNHARDT CONTRACTING
Mark Bernhardt will discuss the air barrier test results for small and large-scale projects on Vancouver Island, comparing the effectiveness of self-adhered and other membrane systems. The presentation will highlight which types of air barriers deliver the best performance.
