LEEP 2024 - Integrated Design Process for New Build in Partnership with CHBA Vancouver Island

March 7, 2024 (7:30 AM - 4:30 PM) (PST)

Description

SPONSORED BY FORTIS BC AND BC HYDRO

A full-day event including two presentations on IDP and codes, and an interactive IDP simulated charrette. The event is lead by a facilitator and hosted by a local builder who will provide the case study home. Small groups will discuss six topic areas and explore the right tools for analysis and decision-making to inform a collaborative design process, the basis for high-performance outcomes. Building Codes are changing and will soon require higher levels of performance, and these performance levels require new tools to measure and verify performance levels and new team-based design strategies to help with complex decision making. IDP presents a powerful new project development tool for builders: It’s a collaborative approach to project design and project management essential for efficient, high-performance results. IDP coordinates Targets, Tools & Teamwork. New tools measure and predict performance results. Key project decision-makers, designers, trades, and consultants, work together in a charrette (workshop) format, to compare options and optimize design decisions for the greatest overall impact. Priorities include time and cost investments. More analysis and coordination at the front end of the project is driven by performance targets and codes. Tools and assessments provide measured data. Multiple options are evaluated and selected to best compliment each other and meet the project objectives. The IDP process provides measured performance indicators and informed decision making - before the tender documents are finalized - to avoid the cost and complexity of changes and coordination implemented later in the construction timeline. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Builders, HVAC designers and installers, energy advisors, plans examiners and building inspectors, architects, trades, installers, suppliers, energy utilities, and local government officials.
